2/11/2013 North Korea conducts nuclear test: South Korea defense ministry

(Reuters) - North Korea conducted a nuclear test on Tuesday, South Korea's defence ministry said, after seismic activity measuring 4.9 magnitude was registered by the U.S. Geological Survey.
The epicentre of the seismic activity, which was only one km below the Earth's surface, was close to the North's known nuclear test site.

This is Dr Busby's contribution to a meeting organised by the American Association of Anthropologists at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on 12th September 2012. The Chair was Prof Barbara Rose Johnston. The earlier part of the meeting will also be uploaded to youtube. The US nuclear tests created enormous contamination and serious health problems in the Marshall Islands but these have been systematically covered up. Most recently the US Health Physics Society published a dishonest series of reports maintaining that there were no serious health effects due to the radioactive fallout. Dr Busby's paper on the issue "The health effects of exposures to radioactivity from the us pacific nuclear tests in the Marshall is. Criticisms of the analysis of Simon et al 2010: Radiation doses and cancer risks in the Marshall islands associated with exposure to radioactive fallout from Bikini and Enewetak nuclear weapons tests and supporting documentation. Dr Busby's main recommendations were adopted by the Special Rapporteur to the UNHCR in his report to the General Assembly. These were that there should be a fully independent study both of the remaining fallout in the Marshall Islands and also an independent Epidemiological study of the health of the inhabitants.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's... something far more frightening. 'It' was code-named 'Starfish Prime,' a test conducted in the summer of 1962, when a 1.45-megaton nuclear weapon was launched 250 miles into space above the Pacific Ocean and then detonated.
The resulting nuclear explosion in space, reports Discover Magazine, was a pulse of energy so strong it affected electrical circuits, power lines, and streetlights in Hawaii, nearly 600 miles away.

7/28/2011 UK nuclear test veterans win leave to appeal

(Reuters) - Ex-servicemen who say they were made ill as a result of being exposed to radiation during British nuclear weapons tests in the 1950s won the latest stage of their battle for compensation on Thursday.
The Supreme Court gave the 1,011 veterans permission to further argue their right to seek damages, the Press Association reported.
Veterans blame ill health -- including cancer, skin defects and fertility problems -- on their involvement in British nuclear tests in Australia, on Christmas Island and in the Pacific Ocean between 1952 and 1958.
The Ministry of Defense acknowledges a "debt of gratitude" but denies negligence.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court gave the veterans the go-ahead to appeal against a lower court ruling that the cases were brought too long after the events to be heard.
Their solicitor Neil Sampson told reporters after the hearing: "This is a significant step forward but it is by no means the end of the road."
He said an average of 3-1/2 of the veterans were dying each month as the case drags on.
