A government panel is requiring Tokyo Electric Power Co. to compensate people for mental distriss after they were forced to evacuate due to the crisis at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, according to a guideline adopted Tuesday.

The government approved Friday an overall framework for using taxpayer money to help Tokyo Electric Power Co. pay an enormous sum in compensation to victims of the crisis at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant.

Tokyo Electric Power Co decided Wednesday to accept the government’s conditions for state support in order to pay massive compensation over the country’s worst nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant, it said.
