2/8/2012 NRC expected to give Georgia nuclear reactors the green light

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is widely expected to approve on Thursday a construction and operating license for new nuclear power reactors for the first time since 1978, giving Southern Co. the green light to build two new units at its existing Vogtle site in Georgia.

9/27/2011 Southern Gambles on First U.S. Nuclear Reactors in 30 Years

Sept. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Southern Co. is poised to end a three-decade freeze on nuclear development as the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission considers granting it the first license to build new reactors since the Three Mile Island accident.
