Comparison of Some Radiation Exposures to Mars-Trip Level (credit NASA)
A recent article published by NASA (5/30/2013) showed that Curiosity's RAD (radiation assessment detector) measured radiation on its trip to Mars to be 1.8 milliSieverts of GCR (galactic cosmic rays) per day while enclosed within the MSL (Mars Science Lab). Converting to the commonly used μSv/h scale (e.g. 1.8 * 1000/24) we get 75 μSv/h. As an informal comparison I drilled down on the MEXT radiation station data from Fukushima prefecture in Japan to see what the highest reading was. According to MEXT (Ministry of Education, Sports, Culture, Science and Technology) data for their "Ottozawa three district meeting place" the reading as of 5/31/2013 CST was about 29.04 μSv/hr, or 407 times the normal background radiation level.
Reading from Ottozawa three distring meeting place, 5/31/2013 6:46 AM CST
Extrapolating then from our data (75/29.04 * 407) an astronaut riding within the MSL would receive an hourly radiation dose 1051 times higher than the level (according to MEXT of .037 μSv/hr) expected within Japan under normal conditions.
There are fears that militant violence in West Africa is spreading after
a double suicide attack in Niger which left more than 20 people dead,
mostly soldiers...

They
are the first such attacks experienced by the country which is involved
in a French-led offensive in neighbouring Mali against Islamist rebels.
At
Agadez in the north, around 20 troops were killed and 16 others injured
when the bombers attacked an army barracks. A French-run uranium mine
at Arlit was also targeted.
The MUJWA, a West African offshoot of
al Qaeda's North African wing has claimed responsibility. The group was
among Islamist forces ousted from northern Mali earlier this year.
The
Algerian commander Mokhtar Belmokhtar "supervised" the attacks,
according to a Mauritanian news agency. In March the Chadian army said
it had killed him but this was never confirmed.
Security had been
stepped up at the uranium mine operated by the French nuclear group
Areva. A car bomb there left one person dead and many injured.
The attacks are seen as evidence that the conflict in Mali is spilling over.
The
French President Francois Hollande has vowed to protect his nation's
interests and to support Niger in its "fight against terrorism".
The German city of Hamburg likely avoided a major technological disaster on May 1, when a freighter ship caught fire. It had several tons of radioactive material and explosives among its cargo, it was revealed.
It took 200 firefighters working for several hours to douse the fires on the Atlantic Cartier. The ship’s most visible cargo was some 70 cars, 30 of which were damaged in the incident. But now it was revealed that the vessel also had highly dangerous substances on board as well, which posed the threat of radioactive contamination to the area.
here's the list of topics covered and the times they are in the video.

There
ya go. I've been collecting these but haven't uploaded them due to the
emotional atom bomb I felt after the last update I did when they were
transferring Leaking radioactive water From leaking Pits TO LEAKING

Really upset me. http://youtu.be/ItoUz6thcpk

A bulldozer pushes trash in a landfill.
There's
a fire burning in Bridgeton, Missouri. It's invisible to area
residents, buried deep beneath the ground in a North St. Louis County
landfill. But the smoldering waste is an unavoidable presence in town,
giving off a putrid odor that clouds the air miles away – an
overwhelming stench described by one area woman as "rotten eggs mixed
with skunk and fertilizer." Residents report smelling it at K-12 school
buses, a TGI Fridays and even the operating room of a local hospital.
"It smells like dead bodies," observes another local.

South Haven —
Operators of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in southwestern Michigan
removed it from service Sunday morning because of a water leak from a
tank, which last year caused seepage into the control room.

Video Description
Chris Busby says:
The decay of Radon, Rn-222 which involved gamma rays over the short term is as follows:
Rn-222 half life 3.8days , then Po-218 (3.05mins), Pb-214 (26.8mins), Bi-214 (19.9mins), Po-214 (164uSec), Pb210 (22.3y)
Of
these only Ra-222 and Bi-214 give appreciable gamma radiation. The
weighted contribution is about 60 Ra-222 to 80 Bi-214. The Brazil rain
samples decay with an overall half life of about 37 minutes (16uSv/h to
1uSv/h in 150 min; Four half lives 16,8,4,2,1). If we assume that the
radon was generated from radium a few hours before it was detected in
the rain, that suggests Bismuth 214 as the origin of the signal. Bi-214
may have a higher concentration in the rain due to fractionation (since
it is a solid and Ra222 a gas; it may form some kind of Bismuth
hydroxide). The reason it is high in Brazil is there is a lot of Radium
in Brazil. Of course, this means that rain can be a radon exposure
hazard from external gamma and also drinking fresh rainwater. Not just
in Brazil. I have not heard that anyone has realised this or that the
official risk agencies have stated it anywhere. Look for diarrhea and
flu like symptoms after heavy rain. Thanks to Samuel dal Pizzol and
other radiation measurers for discovering this!
